The school was formed by the merger of Shandong Institute of Technology and Zibo College. 1956, Jinan Agricultural Mechanization School was established in Shandong Province; 1958, upgraded to Shandong Agricultural Mechanization College; 1990, renamed Shandong University of Technology.
