Jiamusi University is a provincial-level high-level university under key construction in Heilongjiang Province, which was supported by the National Basic Capacity Building Project (Phase II) of 100 Central and Western Universities during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.

The school was founded in 1947 and approved by the former State Education Commission 1995. It is formed by the merger of Jiamusi Medical College, Jiamusi Institute of Technology, Jiamusi Teachers College and the former Jiamusi University (municipal). After 2000, Jiamusi Grain Workers Secondary Professional School, Fujin Normal School and Heilongjiang Industrial School merged one after another.
