Guangzhou Institute of Technology, whose main campus is located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is a private full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education, a newly established doctoral workstation unit in Guangdong Province, a construction unit of master's degree awarding points in Guangdong Province, and a member of Universities of Applied Sciences (College) Alliance and China University-Land Cooperation Alliance.

The predecessor of Guangzhou Industrial and Commercial College is Guangzhou Huadu Yang Huan Business School, which was founded by Guangzhou Huadu Yang Huan Trading Co., Ltd. on 1995. In 2000, the school was renamed Guangzhou Yang Huan College (Huadu College of Guangdong Science and Technology Cadre College).
