South China University of Technology, formerly known as South China University of Technology, was founded in 1952 during the adjustment period of national universities. It was formed by the engineering departments and majors of the Institute of Technology of Sun Yat-sen University and the Institute of Technology of Lingnan University, and was transferred to some engineering departments and majors of Hunan University, Zhonghua University of Wuchang, Wuhan Jiaotong University, Nanchang University and Guangxi University. Its current name is 1988.
