The National University of Defense Technology of PLA (hereinafter referred to as the National University of Defense Technology) is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a comprehensive military university directly led by the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Production Party, and has always been a key institution for national and military construction.

It is one of the national key construction projects in the First Five-Year Plan 156, one of the 20 national key universities identified by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China 1959, and the first batch of universities in the State Council approved to award master's and doctoral degrees.

It is the first batch of pilot graduate schools in China, the first batch of institutions to enter the national "2 1 1 Project" construction plan, the only institution in the whole army to enter the ranks of the national "985 Project" construction, and the key institutions supported by the national "double-class" construction.
