Harbin Institute of Technology, formerly known as Harbin Sino-Russian Industrial School, was founded in 1920. 1922 was renamed as China-Russia University of Technology, 1928 was renamed as Oriental University of Technology in February, 1928 was officially named as Harbin Institute of Technology in June, and 1936 was renamed as National Harbin.
1938 was renamed National Harbin Institute of Technology, and 1949 began to recruit graduate students. On 1970, it merged with Heilongjiang Institute of Technology and Harbin Institute of Electrotechnology to form a new Harbin Institute of Technology, and began to recruit doctoral students on 1982. In 2000, it merged with Harbin Jianzhu University to form the new Harbin Institute of Technology.
