Guizhou Open University, founded in 1979, is an independent institution of higher learning sponsored by Guizhou Provincial People's Government and approved by the Ministry of Education. In 2008, Guizhou Vocational and Technical College was founded on the basis of Guizhou Radio and TV University. In 20021year, with the approval of Guizhou provincial people's government, Guizhou Radio and TV University was renamed and transformed into Guizhou Open University.
After more than 40 years of construction, the school has established a three-level open education system covering the whole province by city, state and industry, and continued to build an open education brand. It has successively won the titles of "National Advanced School of Adult Higher Education", "National Excellent School of Adult Higher Education Evaluation" and "National Advanced School of Audio-visual Education".
