Free normal students are free of tuition, accommodation and living expenses during their studies at school. The subsidy is generally 600 yuan every month during their school days. That is, it will be paid for ten months every year, and the required funds will be arranged by the central finance.

Free normal students should sign a 10 year contract with the school and the provincial education administrative department where the students are located, and volunteer to teach in teaching units below the county level for 2 years. Free normal graduates will return to teach in primary and secondary schools in the province where the students live.
