Hunan Normal University, founded in 1938, is the first independent normal college for nationalities in China. At the beginning of the founding of New China, the National Teachers College was merged into Hunan University.

Hunan First Normal University, formerly known as Chengnan Academy, was founded by Zhang _ in the Southern Song Dynasty, and 1903 was established as Hunan Normal University. 19 12 and 19 14 were successively changed to Hunan public first normal school and Hunan provincial first normal school, and were renamed Hunan first normal school after liberation.

Hunan Normal University is a "double-first-class" university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Hunan Province.
