Based on the idea of pursuing truth and enjoying debate, Wuhan University Debate Team actively participated in major TV debate competitions at home and abroad. Through the debate, it strengthened exchanges and enhanced understanding with local colleges and universities, and combined the display of college students' spiritual outlook with the exploration of the law of the development of debate art. In 2000, it won the champion of the "Huangshan Cup" national college students' debate competition, and the runner-up of the fifth International College Students' Debate Competition (now renamed the International College Students' English Debate Competition) the following year, and has made great achievements since then. On the other hand, based on itself, through organizing and participating in all kinds of debate related activities inside and outside the school, combined with theoretical research and practical application, we are committed to creating a civilized, healthy and standardized debate atmosphere, providing talents and technical support for the annual "Flame Debate Competition" and helping the school to make the "Flame Debate Competition" one of the most prestigious campus cultural brands of Wuhan University. Various activities have trained a large number of debate enthusiasts and professional debaters, made corresponding contributions to the debate activities and TV debate programs in colleges and universities in China, and produced a wide range of social influences.

20 10 Wuhan university defeated its old rival, the University of Malaya, in the final of the 9th International College English Debate Competition, and successfully won the first place in the Chinese Debate Competition. Wuhan University Debate Team became the only team in Chinese mainland to reach the finals twice. It took Wuhan University debaters ten years to complete the difficult leap from runner-up to champion, and made an unimaginable and unrepeatable legend in the history of China Debate Competition.
