2. Central South University was formed by the merger of Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway Institute and Central South University of Technology on April 29th, 2000.
The former Central South University of Technology, formerly known as Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, was formed by the merger of Wuhan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Hunan University, Guangxi University, Nanchang University and Beijing Institute of Technology (now Beijing Institute of Technology). 1952. 1960 was identified as a national key university. In July, 1985 was renamed as Central South University of Technology. 1996 passed the project and entered the ranks of national key construction of 2 1 1 project. 1998 was transferred from China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation to the Ministry of Education. Changsha Railway Institute, formerly known as Central South Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, was founded in 1953 during the national adjustment of departments.
