China University of Science and Technology is a national key science and engineering university directly under the China Academy of Sciences, which focuses on cutting-edge science and high technology, and has both characteristic management and humanities. It is also the first batch of key construction institutions of "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project" in China, and has been selected into "Everest Plan" and "1/Plan".

"Knowledge Innovation Project of China Academy of Sciences" and "National Overseas High-level Talents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base" are members of nine university alliances (C9), China University Presidents' Association, East Asian Research University Association and Pacific Rim University Alliance. They are middle and deputy ministerial-level universities, jointly established by China Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Education and Anhui Provincial People's Government.
