Extended data:
On the north side of Central Road, the east-west main road in Tsinghua, there is a classical and elegant three-arch "archway" building with blue bricks and white columns. In the middle of the building, there are two Tolik-style columns embedded on both sides of the arch, and the letters on the lintel are engraved with the handwriting of Na Tong in the late Qing Dynasty, which is the earliest main school gate in Tsinghua.
Due to the expansion of the campus from 1933 to 1934, there are new gates-west gate and south gate. This earliest door is called "the second door".
Tsinghua Campus was once a part of Xichun Park, the palace of Emperor Kangxi. 1909, the Qing government allocated it as the site of You Mei School (renamed Tsinghua School when Tsinghua Campus opened in191/).
1909 10 yueyou aesthetics office began to build a school building. First, build the fence and school gate, and build a 652-foot fence (including repairing the original 60-foot fence). "The original wall is one foot high and two feet thick, with a wide bottom and a narrow top." The project cost is "7 172 beam".
By the beginning of 19 1 1, with the closure of the fence, the school gate was built, with a campus area of more than 450 mu. It turns out that there is a palace-style building near the second school gate, and there is a hall called "Yong En Hall", which is the master's temple. When the school was founded, it was decided to demolish the Daxiong Hall, and the Tourism Aesthetic Affairs Office gave money to the monks who presided over the temple to send them to other places.
At present, there are still two ancient cypresses and an ancient well covered with cement slabs on the lawn on the east side of Yonglu Road, that is, the remains of Yong En Temple. The original builder of the school gate was Firth (e? s? Fischer).
Liang Shiqiu (19 15 admitted to Tsinghua) once described the appearance of the school gate in his early years: "The school gate in Tsinghua is made of blue bricks, painted with white oil, and the color of mourning reflects two black fence doors that are always open." No matter from a distance or from a close distance, the school gate is beautiful in shape, smooth in lines, tall and straight, beautiful and majestic, and even more beautiful under the care of two ancient cypresses behind it.
