The school originated from Harbin Institute of Technology and was founded in 1920. 1958, Harbin Institute of Technology moved heavy machinery and related majors to Fulaerji District, Qiqihar City, an important industrial town, and established Fulaerji Branch of Harbin Institute of Technology, which was originally named Fulaerji Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of Technology and later renamed Fulaerji Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of Technology. 1960 Independent School, named Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute, became a university directly under the former Ministry of Machinery Industry. 1978 was identified as a national key institution of higher learning. From 1985 to 1997, the whole school moved to Qinhuangdao. 1997 was renamed Yanshan university with the approval of the former state education commission. 1998 was transferred to Hebei Province by the former Ministry of Machinery Industry, which was jointly built by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Hebei Province. In 2000, Hebei Light Industry Management School was merged into Yanshan University.
There are 34 majors in the school selected as national first-class undergraduate specialty construction points. 20 16 As one of the two universities selected by the Ministry of Education, the national certification of engineering specialty of the school was observed and inspected by international experts from washington accord, which supported China to formally join the washington accord International Engineering Education Organization. At present, the 18 engineering major in our school has passed the professional certification (assessment) of engineering education, which indicates that the quality of personnel training of these majors has been internationally recognized and entered the "first phalanx" of global engineering education.

There are five national key disciplines, five national defense specialty disciplines and 16 provincial key disciplines, as well as four disciplines such as engineering. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, eight disciplines obtained the evaluation results of Class B or above, among which mechanical engineering was A-, ranking the top 65,438+00% in China, and materials science and engineering was B+, ranking the top 20% in China.

The school has established the State Key Laboratory of Metastable Material Preparation Technology and Science, the State Key Laboratory of Hoisting Machinery Key Technology, the National Engineering Technology Research Center of Cold Rolled Strip Equipment and Technology, the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Advanced Manufacturing Forming Technology and Equipment, the National Key Discipline Laboratory of Mechanical Structure and Materials Science under Extreme Conditions, the National Demonstration Base for Innovative Talents Training, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, the Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center, the National Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution, four Hebei Collaborative Innovation Centers and 47 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological innovations. The school has reached the international advanced level in the research fields of complete sets of heavy machinery, metastable material science and technology, parallel robot theory and technology, fluid transmission and electro-hydraulic servo control technology, industrial automation control theory and technology, precision plastic forming technology, forging technology and heat treatment technology of large forgings, and mechanical structure and material science under extreme conditions. Since 2000, the school has won 20 national science and technology awards, including 2 first prizes for national scientific and technological progress, 9 second prizes, 5 second prizes for national technological inventions and 4 second prizes for national natural sciences, and has undertaken 970 projects such as "973", "863", national key R&D plan, national natural science fund and national social science fund. Two scientific research achievements, 20 13 and 20 14, were selected as "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress in China" and "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress in National Universities".
The school actively conforms to the needs of the new era, new technology and new economic development, actively promotes the cross-integration and coordinated development of scientific research, lays out new research fields and directions, and focuses on the construction of "four institutes and three centers", namely, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the Institute of Marine Science and Engineering, the Yang Kang Institute of Industrial Technology, the Double Carbon Science and Technology Research Institute, the High Voltage Science Research Center and the Nano Energy Materials.
