Changchun university of science and technology belongs to a college. The school, formerly known as Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, was founded by China Academy of Sciences in 1958, with Wang Daheng, the founder of China Optics, as the founder and the first dean. It is the first university in New China to train optical professionals. It successively belongs to China Academy of Sciences, National Defense Science and Technology Commission, Fifth Machinery Department, Weapons Department, Machinery Committee, Mechanical and Electrical Department and Weapons Industry Corporation. 1999 was transferred to Jilin province and established with the commission of science, technology and industry for national defense. It was renamed in 2002.
