What does rar mean?
RAR is a patented file format, which is used for data compression, archiving and packaging.

The developer of RAR is Eugene Rochelle (Russian: евгенийлазаревичро) The first public version of RAR 1.3 was published in 1993. Eugene Rochelle1March 972 1972 was born in Russia. Graduated from Chelyabinsk University of Technology, Russia, author of FAR Document Manager.

He developed programs to compress or decompress RAR files, which were originally used in DOS and later transplanted to other platforms. The main Windows version encoder, named WinRAR, is released in the form of * * * software. However, Rochelle disclosed the source code of the decoder. The license of UnRAR decoder allows conditional free publishing and modification, provided that it is not allowed to publish and compile RAR-compatible encoders, which have always been patented.

File characteristics

RAR usually has a higher compression ratio than ZIP, but the compression/decompression speed is slow.

Volume compression: divided into multiple files after compression.

Solid compression: treat the compressed files as the same file to improve the compression ratio, at the cost of extracting any file in the package and then decompressing the whole compressed package.

Recover records: add redundant data for repair. When the compressed package itself is damaged but there are enough recovery records, the damaged compressed package can be recovered.

Encryption: RAR2.0 uses AES-128-CBC (AES-256CBC after rar 5.0). Previously, RAR's encryption algorithm was confidential. At present, it has not been directly breached (at least not made public), but only violently cracked without a password.

Disadvantages: it can't handle nested compressed packets effectively, WinRAR can't handle compressed packets with different passwords in batches, can't automatically decompress compressed packets with specified paths, and the speed of handling large compressed packets is slow.
