Our school was founded in 39 years of the Republic of China (1950). At that time, it was called Tamkang English College, which offered three-year and five-year courses. In 47 (1958), it was restructured into a college of arts and sciences; In 69 (1980), it was approved to be upgraded to a university.
After 55 years of growth, our school has grown from an English junior college to a comprehensive university. At present, there are 1 1 college, 16 doctoral programs, 43 master programs, 17 master programs, 49 undergraduate departments, and 4 technical secondary schools, with 27 135 students and 2,655 faculty members.
In the past 50 years, our school has grown up in a series of teaching and management innovations, and its achievements are most obvious in decision-making. From the early "paying equal attention to quality" to "emphasizing quality and lightweight", from the three-pronged policy of "internationalization, informationization and futurity", to the "third wave of weakening the river" and "S curve" in line with the arrival of the all-round information age, and even today, facing the great changes and unknown future of 2/kloc-0 century, we have rebuilt the "second curve" of our school, thus continuing to develop and grow. At present, the primary task is to build a regional comprehensive research university under the premise of strictly controlling the quality of education, and then become active in the international academic arena and become a world-class comprehensive university. Among the successive principals, Dr. Zhang Jianbang took over from 1953 (1964), carefully planning and guiding the growth of the school, with the most outstanding contribution. Later, two principals, Chen Yahong and Zhao Rongyao, were also determined to innovate; President Lin Yunshan worked hard and grew rapidly during his tenure. Dr. Zhang Hong Ju, the former headmaster, continued to promote the policy of "three modernizations", which made our school reach a new height. The current principal, Zhang Jia Elanyin, took office in August 2004, and led the school into the "fourth wave of Tamkang" when Yanglan Campus began to recruit students in 2005. At present, Dr. Jian Bang, the founder of Zhang, is more active in recreating the "second curve", bringing our school into the 2 1 century and becoming an academic center.
Tamkang University is on Yingzhuan Road, and then take the 132 steps and go up Kenan Slope to enter the campus. The campus is a palace-style building in China. At dusk, the scenery reflected by the setting sun is very charming, which is the place overlooking the mountains in the eight scenic spots of fresh water.
The most special building on campus is the boat-shaped maritime museum. Tamkang University used to have a department of ocean engineering. 1979 After the last graduates left school, the original library was changed to maritime museum, with an area of 645 ping and a five-story building. It has collected 50 ship models, globes, simulated bridge and engine room, which is rare in the world. The whole museum can be said to be the epitome of the history of world shipping development, which is very worthy of public visit.
