Wu was born in Chemahu Township, Rugao County, Jiangsu Province. 19 19 After graduating from Rugao Normal School, I worked as a primary school teacher attached to Rugao Normal School for one year. 1920 was admitted to Nanjing Normal University (1923 was changed to National Southeast University, later renamed National Central University and Nanjing University), and 1924 graduated from the Department of Education. The following year, he obtained a bachelor's degree from Dongda University. After graduation, I taught in high school affiliated to nanjing normal university.
1928 went to study in the University of Paris, France, and 193 1 received a doctorate in education. After returning to China, he successively served as Professor of National Peking University and Head of Education Department, Secretary of Anhui Education Department, Director of Higher Education Department of People's Republic of China (PRC) Education Department, Professor of Education College of National Central University (Nanjing University) (now Nanjing Normal University), Deputy Minister of Education of Taiwan Province Province of the Republic of China, and finally served as the second president of New Asia College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
1969 retired and settled in the United States until his death in 2000.
