Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2000, Nanhua University was formed by the merger of the former Central South Institute of Technology and the former Hengyang Medical College, and was jointly established by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Hunan Provincial People's Government. It is a multi-disciplinary university with a history of 48 years, mainly managed by Hunan Province. From June 5438 to October 2002 10, the Sixth Institute of Nuclear Industry was merged into South China University, and the 4 15 Hospital of Nuclear Industry was transferred to the affiliated hospital directly under the school. In July 2004, the PLA Navy set up a training base for selecting reserve officers in the school.

The school's radon measurement research level has reached the international advanced level, Tn measurement research is at the international leading level, the standard device of radon exhalation rate is the only one in the world, and uranium mining specialty is irreplaceable in China.
