Recommendation of the Japanese Embassy
The diplomatic and consular offices of the Japanese government in foreign countries select applicants by examining their papers and the results of written tests and interviews. Then recommend it to Mext, Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Finally, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports selected some candidates as scholarship winners.

Recommended by the Japanese embassy
The foreign ministry or consulate of the Japanese government screens scholarship candidates from other countries. The screening method is to review the candidates' certificates and written and oral test results. Then recommended by the embassy or consulate to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Finally, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology selected candidates as scholarship winners.
University recommendation
For new international applicants
According to the exchange agreement between foreign universities and Tokushima University, foreign graduate students with excellent grades can be selected as scholarship candidates.
After Tokushima University recommended candidates to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology finally selected the scholarship winner.
University recommendation
For new international applicants entering Tokushima University
Foreign graduate students with excellent grades can be selected as scholarship winners according to the exchange agreement between their universities and Tokushima University.
After Tokushima University recommended candidates to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry finally selected the scholarship winner.
For self-funded international students who have already enrolled,
Self-funded students who are pursuing postgraduate courses in Japan or who have achieved excellent results in their last year of undergraduate studies are recommended to the Ministry of Education again after being selected by their universities.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports finally selected the scholarship winner. (This program is currently suspended)
For self-funded international students who have registered at Tokushima University,
Self-funded students with excellent grades apply for postgraduate courses or last-year undergraduate courses, which are recommended by the school to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology after screening by the school.
Self-funded scholarship for international students
1. Privately funded honorary scholarship for international students
This is for those students who are recognized as excellent students and need financial assistance when they register at the university.
(1) Undergraduate level: 48,000 yen/month.
(2) Postgraduate level: 48,000 yen/month (formal students in master's or doctoral programs, and graduate students).
International self-funded student scholarship
1. Honorary Scholarship for International Self-funded Students
The scholarship is open to students who are recognized as outstanding students and need financial assistance during their college entrance.
(1) Undergraduate level: 48,000 yen per month.
(2) Postgraduate level: 48,000 yen per month (applicable to master's or doctoral students and graduate students).
2. Tokushima University Scholarship Fund
(1) "Tokushima University International Education and Research Exchange Fund" supports international students in need of financial assistance. Qualifications: International students attend university at their own expense.
Allowance: 30 thousand yen/month or 45 thousand yen/month
(2) Fujii Otsuka International Education and Research Exchange Fund supports international students who need financial assistance. Qualifications: International students who study at their own expense.
Allowance: 30,000 yen/month or 48,000 yen/month
(3) The Scholarship Fund of the Faculty of Dentistry of Tokushima University supports international students who need financial assistance and are registered in the Faculty of Dentistry. Qualifications: International students enrolled in the School of Dentistry at their own expense (excluding international students sent by foreign governments).
Allowance: up to 30,000 yen/month.
2. Tokushima University Scholarship Fund
(1) The international education and research exchange of Tokushima University subsidizes international students with financial needs. Qualifications: Self-funded international students registered at Tokushima University.
(2) Fujii Otsuka International Education Research Exchange Foundation subsidizes international students with financial needs. Qualifications: Self-funded international students registered at Tokushima University.
(3) The Graduate School of Dentistry Scholarship Foundation of Tokushima University supports international students registered in the graduate school of dentistry. Self-funded international students registered at Tokushima University.
3. Scholarships provided by private scholarship organizations
These scholarships are awarded by private scholarship organizations to self-funded international students.

waive tuition
International students studying at their own expense in regular courses (except students sent by foreign governments, graduate students and auditees) who have financial difficulties and are recognized as excellent students may be exempted from paying tuition fees (full or half). After the entrance examination, you can get detailed information from the registration (student) office of your department.
Tuition fee remission
For international students attending formal courses (except those sent by foreign governments, graduate students and audited students), tuition fees can be reduced (full or semi-reduced) at their own expense and with financial difficulties and excellent grades. You can consult the college admissions office after admission.
