Hunan University of Technology is a comprehensive university with a history of more than 60 years, and it is a "project to train national doctors with special needs". In February 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed from Zhuzhou Institute of Technology to Hunan University of Technology. In the same year, Zhuzhou Teachers College and Hunan Metallurgical Vocational and Technical College merged. The school's characteristic is packaging education.
