1949, Xishan College was absorbed and renamed as North Sichuan University; 1950 merged with North Sichuan College of Literature and moved to Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. 1952 Sichuan Normal University was established with North Sichuan University as the main body, and some majors of East Sichuan Institute of Education (formerly China Institute of Rural Construction), Sichuan University and West China University were merged.
65438-0956, the undergraduate major of the school moved to Lion Mountain in Chengdu. 1964 The former Chengdu University (now Southwestern University of Finance and Economics) was merged into the school. 1985, approved by the State Education Commission, was renamed Sichuan Normal University. 1999, Chengdu Coal Cadre Management College of the former Ministry of Coal was merged into the school.
As of July 2022, the school has two campuses, Lion Mountain and Jackie Chan, with a campus area of more than 3,400 mu. There are more than 37,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 4,000 doctoral and master students, and more than 3,000 teaching and research personnel. There are graduate schools and 26 colleges.
