The school's predecessor was Zhejiang Sericulture College, which was founded in 1897. In 1964, it was named Zhejiang Silk Vocational and Technical College by the State Council. 1979, began to recruit graduate students. 1983 confers the right to master's degree. 1999, renamed as Zhejiang Institute of Engineering with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. In 2006, he was awarded a doctorate.
