Gansu Teachers College for Nationalities is located in Hezuo City, the capital of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, at the junction of Gansu, Qinghai and Sichuan provinces, and is the gateway to Tibetan areas in the mainland.
The school, formerly known as Cooperative Teachers College for Nationalities, was founded in June of 1984 and June of 10. 1986 may 16, Hu Yaobang, then General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, wrote the name of the school in his own handwriting during his inspection in Gannan. In March 2009, the school was upgraded to Gansu Normal University for Nationalities, which is the only provincial normal university for nationalities in Gansu Province.
