Tsinghua and other later engineering universities went in and out. Although the liberal arts were stripped off, they were merged into engineering and their comprehensive strength was improved.

1952 June to [1] September, the China government adjusted the colleges and universities on a large scale, transforming the modern college system in the Republic of China into a "Soviet model" higher education system serving the centralized system. Although these measures could alleviate the shortage of technical talents at that time, they also had a negative impact on China's higher education and social progress in the second half of the 20th century, which made the development of modern higher education in China take a long detour. At present, although China tries to rebuild this "Soviet-style" higher education system by adding departments and merging colleges, it has not reflected on the profound lessons of the adjustment policy of colleges and universities 50 years ago. This paper attempts to analyze the origin, process and consequences of the adjustment of departments from 65438 to 0952, in order to play a mirror role in the current higher education reform.
