Introduction to Yu Dawei
Yu Dawei (1897— 1993) was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, and Changsha, Hunan. He studied at Fudan University, Nanyang College and St. John's University in his early years. Later, he went to Harvard University in the United States and Berlin University in Germany for further study. 1929 returned to China as a counselor of the Ministry of Military and Political Affairs, 1933 served as director of the Ordnance Department of the National Government with the rank of Lieutenant General. During his stay in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, he led the ordnance enterprises to insist on production, provided important equipment support for China army, built a certain scale ordnance production and R&D system, and trained a large number of outstanding talents. He is called "the father of ordnance" in China. 1949 went to Taiwan Province province, and 1954 served as "Minister of Defense" of Taiwan Province province. 1993 died in Taipei at the age of 96.
