Anhui University of Science and Technology, located in Huainan City, is a university jointly established by Anhui Province and the Emergency Management Department. The revitalization plan of higher education in Anhui Province is a "high-level university with local characteristics", the top discipline construction plan in Anhui Province especially supports universities, and the national "Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Universities" supports universities.

The school was founded in 1945, later named as Bengbu Senior Industrial Vocational School in Anhui Province, and moved to Huainan in 1947. It was renamed Anhui Provincial Institute of Technology and Huainan Institute of Coal Industry. 1955 school was upgraded to Hefei Institute of Mining and Technology, and 1958 was renamed Hefei University of Technology.
197 1 The whole system of mining and coalfield geology moved back to Huainan and merged with Huainan Coal School to form Huainan Coal College. 198 1, the school was renamed Huainan Mining Institute. 1993, East China Coal Medical College merged. 1997, the school was renamed Huainan Institute of Technology. In 2000, Huainan Chemical School merged. In 2002, the school was renamed Anhui University of Science and Technology.
