Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology is a national "double-first-class" university, and also a key supporting university for the construction of high-level universities in Jiangsu Province. The school was founded in 1960, which was born in response to the national strategy of New China and the needs of national economic construction. It belongs to the Meteorological Bureau of the Central Military Commission, and its predecessor was the Institute of Meteorology of Nanjing University. 1963 was independently established as Nanjing Institute of Meteorology, and 1978 was listed as a national key university. In 2004, the school was renamed Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology. Since 2007, Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, China Meteorological Bureau, Ministry of Education and State Oceanic Administration have been established. Now it is a central and local university mainly managed by Jiangsu Province.
At present, the school has several colleges: College of Atmospheric Science, College of Applied Meteorology, College of Atmospheric Physics, College of Geographical Sciences, College of Remote Sensing and Surveying and Mapping Engineering, College of Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, College of Ocean Science, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, College of Automation, College of Electronics and Information Engineering, College of Computer and Software, College of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, College of Law and Politics, College of Marxism, School of Management Engineering, Business School, College of Art, School of Management Engineering. The school has distinctive school-running characteristics, and atmospheric science has been selected as a national' double-class' construction discipline, ranking first in the country in the first-class discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education and being awarded A+ level. Meteorology is a national key discipline, and four disciplines, earth science, engineering, computer science, environmental science and ecology, rank among the top in the world in ESI disciplines 1%. There are 6 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 22 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 14 master degree authorization points, and 7 1 undergraduate major (including professional direction), which are distributed in science, engineering, literature, management, economics, law and other disciplines.
