Mr. Chen, the founder of Nankai University Business School, is one of the pioneers of management science in China. Mr. Chen Lao's outstanding achievements in personnel training and scientific research of management discipline have laid the foundation for the establishment and development of this young discipline in China. He was elected as the Chairman of the Academic Committee of China Management Science Research Association, and his achievements have been included in Who's Who in Oceania and the Far East, Who's Who in International Outstanding Achievements and Who's Who in International Outstanding Intellectuals published by Cambridge International Biography Center.
Mr. Chen, 19 1 1 was born in Hexian County, Anhui Province in February. My family was poor when I was a teenager. He studied hard and achieved excellent academic results. Since studying in county junior high school from 65438 to 0934, he has won many scholarships. 1937, studying in Xiangxi High School. 1940 was admitted to the Foreign Languages Department of Zhejiang University, which moved to Meitan, Guizhou. The following year, he was transferred to the Economics Department of Kunming Southwest United University, graduated from 1945, and taught at Nankai University in 1946. He has served as teaching assistant, lecturer, associate professor and professor in Economic Research Institute, Economics Department and Management Department successively, and served as the head of the newly established Management Department at 1980.
When Mr. Chen was studying in The National SouthWest Associated University in his early years, he tended to be revolutionary, attended progressive reading clubs and studied Marxist economics. At that time, the wall newspapers Lun Heng and Lun Heng, which were edited by him, often published progressive remarks, which attracted the attention of the teachers and students of the whole school.
As early as the late 1940s and early 1950s, Mr. Chen published more than a dozen research articles on the theory of "index" and its recovery and compilation, compilation methods and formula demonstration. In the early 1950s, he turned to the study of economic effects, and his article "Several Issues on the Impact Index of Industrial Products on Cost" once caused discussion in domestic academic circles. In the article "Several Problems in the Study of Socialist Economic Effects" written in the 1960s, the issue of getting the best income at the lowest cost was expounded as the central content of economic research. He pointed out that "emphasizing economic effects should not be limited to the production field, but should also include state management organs, culture, education, health and other institutions." This article was later selected by Shanghai People's Publishing House and China Prospect Publishing House into Selected Works on Economic Effects since Liberation and Selected Works on Economic Effects since the Founding of the People's Republic of China respectively.
In the 1980s, with the deepening of the four modernizations and the country's demand for management science, Professor Chen's talents were fully displayed and achieved fruitful results.
198 1 participated in the international academic conference on "China-Europe technology and industrial policy" in Sweden. The article "On Science, Technology and Economic Development" read by him was praised by the delegates and included in the first article of the meeting minutes. Lund University in Sweden published an article and spoke highly of it. At the beginning of 1984, at the invitation of the fifth plenary session of the Faculty Committee of China Academy of Sciences, he gave an academic report entitled "Research on the Management History of China". In his report, he cited a large number of facts and pointed out that there are many management practices and management ideas in China that are worth discussing, studying and summarizing. To establish a set of modern socialist management theory with China characteristics, we must combine life with the West and blend the past and the present. "Outlook" magazine will "from
Integrating theory with practice, quick thinking, broad vision and courage to innovate are the characteristics of Professor Chen's scholarship. He said: "China has a long history of management, but modern management began with reform and opening up. The reform and opening up has brought many new management problems to China, and the solution of these new problems requires new management concepts. My greatest wish is to establish a modern management science with China characteristics. " In fact, Professor Chen has always been very interested. As early as the three-year difficult period of the country in the 1960 s, he was hungry and frowned and thought: How can we get the maximum benefit with the minimum investment? In the sunset campus, he spent many inexplicable nights. We must take the road of combining economy with technology-this is his initial budding management thought. Unfortunately, his idea didn't have any repercussions at that time. In the late 1970s, he revisited the old theory and wrote to China Academy of Sciences, calling for the establishment of specialized research institutions. This time, his urgent voice spread all over the country, which finally contributed to the birth of the "Institute of Technical Economics". 1980 Nankai university appointed Mr. Chen to set up the department of enterprise management. The old man got angry: "It can't be called the department of enterprise management, it should be called the department of management!" " At this time, management is still very new in China, and some people don't admit that there is such an independent discipline. He went out of his way to lobby around. As a result, China has the first university management department. What he pursues diligently is to create a modern management theory system and method with China characteristics, which combines ancient and modern Chinese and foreign disciplines with theory and practice. Through the comparative study between China and foreign countries, we can learn advanced foreign experience suitable for the national conditions; Through the combination of ancient and modern, it reflects the national spirit and cultural characteristics, reflects the successful management practice in China, and thus trains and guides China's own management experts. This is a systematic project, and the completion of this systematic project depends on management practice and management ideas.
At the beginning of 1984, Chen xiangshiren, who was specially invited to attend the fifth academic Committee meeting of China academy of sciences, announced: "the latest contemporary management ideas can be found in grandson!" From then on, under the historical background of reevaluating and rethinking China culture, the research on China's ancient management thought began in a neglected corner. The pioneer has been writing constantly and has published profound and innovative works many times: ","from
Teacher Chen attaches great importance to the coordination of disciplines and the breadth of knowledge. He believes that management is an applied science, and it is also a comprehensive discipline that spans natural science, technical science and social science. Management is not only related to social system and economic system, but also related to economic development, cultural and scientific level and national customs and traditions. He enrolled management graduate students who studied economics, science, engineering technology, Chinese and history. He organized them to engage in management research, give full play to the specialties of various disciplines, and solve qualitative and quantitative problems with the advantages of multidisciplinary combination.
Long-term overloaded with teaching tasks, offering more than 0 courses 10 for undergraduates, master students and doctoral students, such as Introduction to Management and Comparative Management Research. Teaching 2-3 courses at the same time each semester. Starting from 1983, master students and doctoral students in six professional directions, such as economic management and technical economy, are enrolled. Under his personal guidance, 32 graduate students have obtained master's degrees, and 1 has obtained doctoral degrees. At present, there are 12 doctoral students, including an American doctoral student. He also enthusiastically helped guide young and middle-aged teachers and brought out a group of teachers with great development prospects.
Seeing China after the reform and opening up, Mr. Chen has made various attempts in cultivating management talents, but it is far from satisfactory. Therefore, he lost no time in agreeing to several visiting Canadian universities to train modern management talents. Since then, it has established relations with some universities in the United States, Japan and Europe. He talked about China's traditional management thought, and foreign experts talked about western management thought, so that the students could suck the nectar produced by the collision of eastern and western cultures. This practice of Sino-foreign cooperation in training management talents is called "Nankai-York model". The students trained by this model are generally reused at home and abroad.
Mr. Chen is one of the scholars who study economic benefits in domestic schools. In his research in the 1950s, he has cut into this theme. 1978, he suggested that national organizations should lead the study of national economic effects. According to the characteristics and requirements of modern management, he advocated the research method of combining economic management with technology, and discussed the teaching and scientific research practice. Since the end of 1970s, he has hosted many seminars on "cost management", "technical economy" and "technology introduction", and trained thousands of senior technical and economic talents and management talents for the whole country.
