Wuyi University, referred to as "Wuyi College", is located in Wuyishan, a green hinterland of the economic zone on the west side of the Taiwan Strait and a world cultural and natural heritage site. It is a public full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education on March 19, 2007, and the second batch of national demonstration colleges for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. The predecessor of the school is Nanping Teachers College, which was founded in August 1958 and June 1962. Fuzhou Teachers College was merged and renamed Nanping Teachers College (undergraduate). The school was closed during the Cultural Revolution, and 1978 was reopened with the approval of the State Council. 1980 was renamed Nanping normal college, and 1994 was renamed Nanping normal college.
