The college focuses on measurement and control technology and instruments, and is a typical interdisciplinary major, integrating optics, machinery, electricity, computer, information, control and other disciplines. The predecessor of the college is the Institute of Optoelectronic Precision Machinery approved by the former State Education Commission 1979. 1980 began to recruit graduate students majoring in precision instruments and machinery, 1982 recruited undergraduate students majoring in precision instruments and machinery, 1986 recruited doctoral students majoring in precision instruments and machinery, and 1999 was named the School of Optoelectronic Engineering.
