The predecessor of Guilin University of Electronic Technology was1960-Guilin Institute of Machinery was born in this beautiful city. The school has been renamed as Guilin Machinery Industry School, Guilin Radio School and Guilin Institute of Electronic Industry, and has successively been affiliated to Fourth Ministry of machinery industry, Ministry of Electronic Industry, Ministry of Mechanical and Electronic Industry, China Electronic Industry Corporation and Ministry of Information Industry. In 2000, the management system was changed to a combination of the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay, and it was one of the five key universities in Guangxi. In February 2006, the Ministry of Education agreed that Guilin University of Electronic Technology should be renamed Guilin University of Electronic Technology. In March 2008, the school became a university approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
At present, the school covers an area of 2168,000 square meters, with a building area of 745,000 square meters, which is divided into Jinjiling Campus, Huajiang Campus and Beihai Campus. Huajiang Campus has a planned land area of 6,000 mu, and the first phase of the project has been partially completed and put into use. After the completion, Yaoshan Campus will become an ecological digital campus with the characteristics of Guilin landscape and Guidian discipline. The school has 18 teaching units, 17 research institutes and 1 affiliated middle schools. The library has paper books 15 14000 and electronic books 1434000. There are 2,800 Chinese and foreign periodicals and 20 Chinese and foreign electronic periodicals 15320. The school has purchased 39 Chinese and foreign electronic literature databases such as IEEE/IEE(IEEE explore). As one of the first batch of 100 universities in China, campus network plays an increasingly important role in teaching, scientific research and management.
