Hunan Agricultural University is a university (Class A) jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Hunan Provincial People's Government. It is a national civilized campus and a first-class university in Hunan Province. Academician Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice", served as honorary president of the school. The school has always been adhering to the tradition of loving agriculture and practicing the mission of strengthening agriculture and rejuvenating agriculture. Now it has developed into a teaching and research university with agronomy as the main body and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.
The school has 20 colleges, 1 independent college, graduate school and continuing education college, covering agriculture, engineering, literature, science, economics, management, law, medicine, teaching, art and so on 10. National key disciplines 1 discipline, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs key disciplines 1 discipline, 3 provincial-level construction disciplines, 7 provincial-level cultivation disciplines, 2 advantageous and characteristic disciplines in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan and 5 provincial-level key disciplines1discipline. The ESI rankings of four disciplines, namely, animal and plant science, agricultural science, environment/ecology and chemistry, are among the top in the world 1%. There are 10 postdoctoral research mobile stations,10/1 for doctoral degree authorization, 23 for master degree authorization and 13 for master degree authorization. It is the first batch of units in China to award master degrees. There are 80 undergraduate majors, including 15 national first-class undergraduate majors and 20 provincial first-class undergraduate majors.
The school is the first batch of pilot construction units of the National New Rural Development Research Institute, taking the lead in establishing 1 National Collaborative Innovation Center, 1 Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center and 1 Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center. There are 8 national scientific research platforms and 79 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms. Accumulated 27 national science and technology achievement awards and more than 500 provincial and ministerial science and technology achievement awards; Approved more than 300 new varieties; Authorized patents 1400. New varieties of practical technical achievements such as rape, pepper, tea, rice, corn, potato, peanut, grape, cotton, citrus, pig, tobacco, etc. have been popularized throughout the country.
