The school started with Lixian College, which was founded on 1900. 193 1 was founded in the high-tech department of Lixian Middle School, and 1953 was formally established as "Qingdao Architectural Engineering School in Shandong Province". June 1960, upgraded to "Shandong Metallurgical Institute" and began to recruit undergraduates. 1978 was renamed as "Shandong Institute of Metallurgical Industry", and in September 1985 it was renamed as "Qingdao Institute of Architecture and Engineering". 1993 was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a master's degree awarding unit. The school belongs to the former Ministry of Heavy Industry and the former Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In June 1998 1 1, it was placed under the leadership of Shandong Province, and the management system of "combining the central and local governments and giving priority to local management" was implemented. In May 2004, it was renamed "Qingdao University of Technology". In 2005, it was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree awarding unit.
