Southwest Jiaotong University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is one of the first research universities with graduate schools, such as "Double First Class", "2 1 1 Project", "Special 985 Project" and "201Collaborative Innovation Plan". It is located in Chengdu, a famous historical and cultural city in China and a national central city.

The school is good at engineering, with 27 colleges (institutes and centers), two first-class national key disciplines such as traffic engineering and mechanical engineering, and two national key disciplines such as vehicle engineering, bridge and tunnel engineering.

There are 18 authorized points for doctoral degrees in first-class disciplines, 3 authorized categories for doctoral professional degrees, 4 authorized points for master's degrees in first-class disciplines, and1mobile post-doctoral research stations.

The discipline of transportation engineering ranks first in China (A+) and has entered the national "double-class" construction sequence, the discipline of civil engineering ranks seventh in China (A-), and the six disciplines of engineering, materials science, computer science, chemistry, social science and earth science rank in the top of ESI world 1%.

The school has National University Science Park, National Science and Technology Business Incubator, National Technology Transfer Center and Industrial Research Institute. Established the transformation mode of "technology-incubation-industry", and took the lead in exploring the reform of "mixed ownership of post scientific and technological achievements" in the country, which is known as the "Xiaogang Village Experiment" in the field of science and technology.
