Peking University History Department, founded in 1899, is the earliest national historical institution of higher learning in modern China. There are eight two disciplines in the department, including world history, ancient history of China, modern history of China, historical geography, special history, historical theory and history, historical philology and archaeology.

At the end of 1902, the government of China planned to establish a history project in the Charter for the Restoration of Shi Jing University Hall, and 1903 was changed to China history project and world history project.
