Human resource statistics is a methodological subject about how to describe, measure, track and predict the situation of human resources, and make statistical analysis of human resources. The research of human resource statistics will provide strong support for the quantitative and accurate development of human resource economics and human resource management. At present, the research system of human resources statistics in China has not reached a unified understanding, and a complete index system and statistical research method system for measuring human resources status have not been established, and the research on human resources statistics at home and abroad is rarely involved. At present, foreign research on human resources mainly focuses on human resource management, human resource planning, human resource recruitment, performance management, salary management, personnel recruitment and resignation management, personnel training management, career management, labor relations management, organizational culture construction and leader development.

Through my many years' working experience and research, it is found that domestic scholars' research on human resources statistics mainly focuses on concepts, contents, index system and measurement methods, aiming at enriching and perfecting the human resources statistics system. Conceptually, I make a distinction between human resources and human capital, among which, I think they are not only different in concept, but also different in research perspective and analysis content, and understand human capital as a qualitative aspect of human resources. In content, human resources investment statistics, human resources output statistics, human resources investment benefit statistics and human resources supply and demand statistics all belong to the research scope of human resources statistics. It is considered that human resources statistics should include human resources status statistics, human resources input-output statistics and human resources supply and demand statistics.

In view of the setting of index system, I think the statistical indicators of human resources in this enterprise should be set around the quantity, quality, development and utilization of human resources; The statistical index system of human resources is constructed from five aspects: quantitative index, quality index, structural index, dynamic index and efficiency index.

Because of the particularity, complexity, uncertainty and difficulty in quantification of human resources, it is far more difficult to measure the value of human resources than material resources. After decades of research at home and abroad, this problem has not been solved so far.

Human resources are national wealth, and human resources statistics are the fundamental means to understand, master and monitor the scale, level and change of human resources. However, through my research, it is found that there is no systematic and standardized research result in China's human resources statistics, both in theory and practice. Improve the statistical indicators of human resources stock, establish statistical indicators of human resources flow as soon as possible, accelerate the establishment of a long-term mechanism for tracking and monitoring the quantity, quality, input, output and benefits of human resources, improve the statistical investigation system of human resources, realize the sharing of statistical information of human resources, and provide human resources protection and support for the long-term sustainable development of the country.
