West China University of Medical Sciences, the predecessor of private West China Union University, 19 10 was jointly founded by Christian churches in Britain, the United States and Canada. It is a comprehensive university with four colleges of arts, science, medicine and dentistry. After the founding of New China, the people of China and the government of China officially took over the university in June 195 1 and named it "West China University". 1952 after the adjustment of national colleges and universities, the school changed from a comprehensive university to a new multi-disciplinary medical college-Sichuan Medical College. The school has specialties such as medicine, stomatology, hygiene and pharmacy. 1985 10 With the approval of the Ministry of Health, Sichuan Medical College was renamed "West China Medical University". West China University of Medical Sciences covers an area of 1.069 mu with a total construction area of 603,668 square meters. The school currently has 8 colleges, including Basic Medical College, First Clinical Medical College, Stomatological Medical College, Public Health College, Pharmacy College, Adult Education College, Forensic Medicine College and Nursing College, 2 departments of Foreign Languages Department and Maternal and Child Health Department, humanities and social sciences department, sports department, library, archives, audio-visual education center, computer application and research center, experimental animal center, 1 pharmaceutical factory. By the end of 2000, the school had 8 colleges, 15 enrollment majors, 35 doctoral degree authorization points,1kloc-0/doctoral supervisor, 7 postdoctoral mobile stations, 44 master degree authorization points and 42 research institutes (centers). There are 6 128 faculty members, 329 professors and 640 associate professors. There are 4376 students in school, including 694 graduate students. From West China University to West China University of Medical Sciences, the school principals are Liu Chengzhao (195 1 to 1968), Ma Junzhi (1978 to 1985) and Cao Zeyi (1985 to/).
