The University of Leeds is a public comprehensive research university located in Leeds, England. The school, formerly known as Yorkshire Academy of Sciences, was founded in 1874. Merged with Leeds Medical College (founded at 183 1) to form Yorkshire College.

1887 The Federal University of Victoria was established with Owens College (the predecessor of Manchester University) and University College of Liverpool (the predecessor of Liverpool University). 1904, Edward VII awarded the Royal Charter and officially awarded the name of Leeds University.
