The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Sun Yat-sen University was established in June 1994+0 1. Its predecessor was the Department of Chemistry of Sun Yat-sen University, which was established in June 1924. There are four departments, six institutes and three centers, including chemistry department, applied chemistry department, polymer and materials science department, chemical engineering department, inorganic chemistry and materials research institute, physical chemistry research institute, organic chemistry research institute, analytical science research institute, polymer research institute, materials science research institute, petrochemical products and technology research center, green chemistry and engineering research center and chemical experiment teaching center.

"Inorganic Chemistry" and "Polymer Chemistry and Physics" in our college are national key disciplines; Inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and polymer chemistry and physics are provincial key disciplines. Chemistry is a provincial key discipline; "Polymer Composite Materials and Functional Materials Laboratory" and "Bioinorganic and Synthetic Chemistry Laboratory" are key laboratories of the Ministry of Education. Our college has the right to award doctoral and master's degrees in the first-class disciplines of chemistry (covering inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and polymer chemistry and physics), interdisciplinary disciplines of "materials physics and chemistry" and "chemical biology", and master's degrees in engineering disciplines of "chemical technology". There are postdoctoral mobile stations in chemistry, materials science and engineering. There are five undergraduate enrollment majors: chemistry, applied chemistry, material chemistry, chemical engineering and technology, polymer materials and engineering. Among them, chemistry major is the national base for training basic scientific research and teaching talents, and chemistry major and material chemistry are famous brands in Guangdong Province. The chemical experimental teaching center is the first batch of national experimental teaching demonstration centers, and the chemical teaching team is rated as a national teaching team.
