North university of china Institute of Software is one of the provincial demonstration software colleges approved by Shanxi Provincial Government and Shanxi Provincial Department of Education (established in 2004), which belongs to the second-level college in north university of china and is the first demonstration software college in Shanxi Province to recruit undergraduate students substantially. There are 3029 full-time undergraduates and 33 graduate students (including international students).

In 2020, as the only university in Shanxi Province selected to participate in the evaluation, it was the first to apply for the national characteristic demonstration software college, and the software engineering specialty was rated as the first-class specialty at the provincial level.
