After the founding of New China, the Law School of the National People's Congress first set up a major in civil law, compiled the first civil law textbook, and undertook the task of training teachers for many universities in China. Since the resumption of the National People's Congress, teachers in this field have participated in drafting many important laws, such as General Principles of Civil Law, Contract Law and Property Law, and trained a large number of high-quality doctoral students, master students and nearly 1,000 senior judges. This direction has achieved some results in the following aspects.

General principles of civil law. Professor Tong Rou established the status, adjustment object and system of civil law before his death, and these views have always been the mainstream of civil law. On this basis, Professor Wang Liming and others further developed the theory of general principles of civil law and published a series of monographs. The research on the civil code system has been completed and the consultation report has been submitted to the National People's Congress. The research on major and difficult issues in China's Civil Code won the first "Three Hundred" original publishing project (humanities and social sciences).
