Classification introduction of Harvard AUSCR China-US student leaders summit
HSYLC introduces the original teaching form of Harvard's "Freshmen Seminar". Here, high school students in China, under the leadership of Harvard teachers, will experience a completely different learning style from traditional classrooms: the average number of students is below 12, but there is a Harvard lecturer and a teaching assistant from a top university in China; Every student must read a lot of original English materials before class and join the class discussion with original ideas and questions, instead of following the textbook step by step; There is no distance between the podium and the students, instead, the lecturer and the students collide fiercely in the round-table discussion. It is this kind of class that makes many summit students feel the impulse and joy of expressing in English for the first time. While training high school students' English language expression ability, they are also encouraged to think independently and challenge the habit of authoritative knowledge. In recent years, this project has become one of the favorite summit projects for high school students. High school students keep close contact with their teachers even after reaching the summit. In terms of course selection, the students of the summit will use the online course selection system to participate in the course selection process. Dozens of lecturers from Harvard will provide interesting and extensive topics, which will be divided into four core curriculum categories: economy and development, science and technology, humanities and art, history and social studies. Each student will choose courses independently from dozens of courses in four categories. (Each category offers nearly ten subjects to choose from)

The colorful topics of previous summits include: game theory, human brain and computer, social psychology, the historical and humanistic significance of chocolate, how to become a basketball manager, globalization ... Harvard lecturers strive to present an all-encompassing academic concept to students from many academic angles such as history, economy, literature and anthropology. While broadening their horizons, HSYLC students will cultivate brand-new ways of thinking and study habits, among which cooperative research, critical thinking and debate feedback are all important classroom forms.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to these small classes, many non-core courses will also run through the summit in the form of extracurricular activities, such as basic second foreign languages (Spanish, French, etc. ), football, cappella, Frisbee, introduction to softball, jazz dance, etc. During the colorful HSYLC activities, 1-2 well-known guests from home and abroad will be welcomed every day to give keynote speeches to all the students, thus opening the day's activities. In the past few summits, the daily guest lectures have become a highlight that constantly brings surprises and enlightenment to the students. In addition to the famous Harvard professors who came to attend the summit, the famous guests attending the previous summits also included: Li Kaifu, former global vice president of Google, president of China, and CEO of Innovation Factory; Ma Yun, CEO of Alibaba; John Thornton, former president of Goldman Sachs Investment Bank; Lawrence summers, former US Treasury Secretary and former president of Harvard University; Nancy Barry, founder and former president of the World Women's Finance Organization; Basketball superstar Yao Ming; And Le Jia, the founder of personality chromatics. During the whole activity, each speaker will bring cutting-edge ideas from different fields and perspectives, and constantly collide with the minds of HSYLC students.

It is worth mentioning that one of the core experiences of Harvard students is to listen to the speeches of world leaders all the year round. HSYLC holds guest lectures every day, and firmly believes that this activity will have a far-reaching impact on the participating students. On the well-planned guest list, every speaker has extremely rich knowledge and life experience. Face-to-face communication with them can not only help students understand the cutting-edge knowledge and experience in many fields, but also stimulate their interest and curiosity in different social classes. More importantly, the compact daily guest lectures will train students to learn from leaders from all walks of life and learn new knowledge from the wise, which will have far-reaching inspiration for future development.

In order to make every student digest and feedback the massive information covered by the daily guest lecture immediately, the daily guest lecture is closely linked with other activities of the summit. Students either have a heated discussion on the lecture of the day in the group meeting with Harvard students every night, or flexibly use the speech information in the guest lecture to solve a mysterious game during the summit. Such derivative activities help them to think and understand more deeply.

The continuous improvement of this classic project at this year's summit is reflected in the fact that in addition to the World Expo, we will invite more international and domestic master guests to interact with students in Beijing and Shanghai, and we will also invite star professors from famous domestic universities who are warmly sought after by students to share their wisdom and humor. Harvard's special writing course, which began at 1872, is the oldest traditional writing training in the United States. From the beginning of entering Harvard campus, every freshman needs to participate in writing training for at least one semester. Freshmen learn rigorous logic, powerful exposition and clear self-expression in interesting writing topics through high-intensity small class teaching, classic reading analysis, different forms of writing training and weekly meeting with teachers, which lays a solid foundation for any professional paper.

It is of great significance for students to set up special writing courses in senior high schools. High school students who are used to 400-word manuscript paper and short English compositions will face the challenge of American college writing standards for the first time. But our lecturers will try their best to make this process full of fun and lead high school students to complete the leap from short composition to college writing.

Under the experience of organizing summit activities in previous years, in addition to helping students express their ideas in English writing more freely. For this writing project, this year's innovation will focus more on helping to solve the practical application needs of high school students. Under the choice of students, you can participate in "composition workshops" on various topics. For example, some guide high school students to use standardized format to make resumes, while others guide high school students to write American university application articles and personal growth statements. The English name of activity ATVenture is the abbreviation of Action for Tomorrow Venture, and the Chinese name is "Tomorrow Action Plan". It is an experimental project to help HSYLC students understand the meaning of "entrepreneurship" and "entrepreneurship", and it is one of the themes of the activity.

The activity hopes to stimulate students' team cohesion and innovation ability, and start planning and design with a social problem or market defect they want to solve from scientific methods such as academic research and data collection. Although they start with simulated creativity, they always measure it with practical and actionable standards. This year's Tomorrow Action Plan (20 10) will introduce a more mature training mechanism, and invite well-known entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial mentors to tell students about their entrepreneurial process; It will also introduce a more exciting defense mechanism so that participants' teams can simulate defense against each other. In this year's summit, tomorrow's action plan will run through many projects and become an important part of the "team competition". For more updates on tomorrow's action plan, please pay attention to the phased update of HSYLC official website later. HSYLC is not only a challenging academic activity, but also a gathering of energetic young people. The organizers of the summit have been working hard to create a passionate cultural environment, so that students can freely express their ideas, show their artistic and sports talents and make lifelong friends. During the summit, participating students have at least two hours of extracurricular activities every day, and choose the most suitable activity group to carry out various extracurricular activities according to their interests and specialties. Under the leadership of Harvard students and other volunteers, participants will have the opportunity to learn ballroom dancing and hip hop, participate in sports activities, or try a new foreign language. At the end of the summit, all students and lecturers will show their talents and share the wonderful moments in extracurricular activities with all participants. Through various group extracurricular activities, HSYLC can not only improve students' academic performance, but also improve their mood, broaden their social contacts and establish profound friendship among students.
