Professor Wei Yingtao, a historian and former vice president of Sichuan University, recalled that 1985, before the celebration of Sichuan University, the Party Committee of Sichuan University decided that Professor Wei Yingtao, a historian and vice president in charge of liberal arts, would draft a report and begged Comrade Xiaoping to write the name of Sichuan University. Professor Kui wrote at home for three days, carefully worded and wrote 500 words. After the report was completed, President Yan Guosen, who is good at calligraphy, wrote vertically with a brush and regular script and copied it, and sent it to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to hand it over to Xiaoping.

Less than a month after the report was issued, the Party Committee of Sichuan University received a letter from the General Office of the Central Committee of the CPC, enclosing the name of Sichuan University inscribed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping on April 27th, in quadruplicate for Sichuan University to choose from. "At that time, the worshippers were moved by Comrade Xiaoping's deep feelings of attaching importance to education and loving his hometown." Wei Yingtao said that this is an extremely valuable "golden signboard" of Sichuan University.
