Osaka University, referred to as Osaka University for short, is a top Japanese and world-class research-oriented comprehensive national university and one of the highest local universities in Feng Jingen.

Imperial University Osaka was founded in 193 1, formerly known as the Sixth Imperial University. After World War II, it was officially renamed Osaka University.

Osaka University is a Class A top university and a designated national university in the super-international university program established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. It is also an important member of the academic research forum, the Federation of engineering departments of eight universities, the excellent graduate school program and the leading graduate school program.

It is also an important member of academic organizations and projects such as the International University Alliance, the Pacific Rim University Alliance, the Association of East Asian Research Universities, and the Japan-Britain Renjing.

Alumni of Osaka University include winners of various awards, such as Nobel Prize, Wolf Prize, Lasker Prize, Crawford Prize and Geldner Foundation International Award.
