Central South University of Forestry and Technology is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a provincial-level university, a provincial key university, a basic capacity-building project for universities in the central and western regions, an education and training plan for outstanding agricultural and forestry talents, a planned university in Hunan Province, and a university in northern Hunan Province.

This school is one of the six universities in Hunan Province with postgraduate exemption qualification. It is also the first provincial university with a graduate school in Hunan Province, covering nine disciplines such as science, engineering, agriculture, literature, economics, law, management, teaching and arts. It is a comprehensive university with Post-Doctoral Research Center, doctor's degree granting right and postgraduate exemption right, featuring forestry.
