Wuhan University, located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is a comprehensive national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It is the first batch of "double-first-class" universities in China, the "985 Project" and "21Project" national key construction universities, and the first batch of universities authorized by independent degrees. Wuhan University can be traced back to 1893. Zhang Zhidong, Governor of Huguang, founded the School of Self-improvement at the invitation of the Qing government. In 2000, Wuhan University merged with Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and Hubei Medical University to form the new Wuhan University.
