University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, referred to as Shanghai University for Science and Technology for short, is a key university in Shanghai focusing on engineering and integrating science, management, economics and literature.
The context of the school originated from the missionary university Hujiang University founded by 1906 and the German Medical College founded by 1907. 1960 Shanghai institute of machinery was established in the former site of hujiang university, 1994 was renamed east china institute of technology, 1996 merged with Shanghai institute of machinery in may. 1999, Shanghai Institute of Optical Instruments was merged into the school. In July 2003, Shanghai Institute of Medical Devices and Shanghai Institute of Publishing and Printing were placed under the management of Shanghai University of Science and Technology.
