The school, formerly known as Southwest People's Revolutionary University, was founded in 1950, with Marshal Liu Bocheng as the principal. 1953, based on the Department of Political Science and Law of Southwest People's Revolutionary University, merged the then Chongqing University Law School, Sichuan University Law School, Chongqing University of Finance and Economics Law Department, Guizhou University Law Department and Yunnan University Law Department to formally establish Southwest University of Political Science and Law. Mr. Guo Moruo inscribed the name of the college, and the first president was General Zhou Baozhong.
65438-0958, Chongqing Branch of Central Public Security College was merged into the school. 1993 became the authorized unit of doctoral degree; 1995 was renamed Southwest University of Political Science and Law; In 2003, it became the first batch of authorized units for doctoral degrees in first-class disciplines of law.
Extended information from 2000 to 20 14, the school won 28 teaching achievement awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, among which 3 teaching research achievements won the second prize of the fourth, fifth and sixth national higher education teaching achievement awards respectively;
Four textbooks won the first and second prizes of excellent textbooks in national colleges and universities by the Ministry of Education, nine textbooks won the first, second and third prizes and excellent prizes of national law textbooks and scientific research achievements awards, and nine textbooks were allowed to enter the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" textbook project sequence.
