The school's predecessor was 1954 training course for technicians of the Central Broadcasting Bureau. 1April, 959, with the approval of the State Council, the school was upgraded to Beijing Broadcasting Institute. In August 2004, it was renamed China Communication University. The school has 4 research institutes, 7 first-class doctoral degree authorization points, 18 first-class master degree authorization points, 6 professional master degree categories and 6 postdoctoral mobile stations.
The west campus of China Communication University is located in Dongyi International Media Industrial Park, which is about 1.5km west from the general school of China Communication University. 2 student apartment buildings with an area of 3 1 1,000 square meters; Comprehensive training building 1 building, covering an area of 1.9 million square meters.
There is a student canteen with unified management and standard in the general school, which can meet the living, learning and office needs of 3500 people. The first departments to move into the West Campus in the early stage are China Communication University Training College, Higher Vocational College, MBA College, some research institutes, school-run companies and other units.
